Activities for the Elderly

A living memory - Ideal for the elderly with memory problems

"Do you remember then, when…" is a phrase you often hear when families and friends meet. Sometimes, though, it can be quite difficult to remember exactly how it was. Instead of discussing how the story goes, you can instead find a video brochure / video book and watch films and pictures from the situation and relive the memory together.

Pictures are documentation of the time that was, and are often included in cozy contexts among families and friends who together want to revisit pictures from the time the family's youngest was confirmed, from the grandparents' golden wedding or from the time the family got their first dog.

Pictures have a nostalgic effect, but films where you can see both movements and facial expressions, give a very special experience, as you can relive and see many more details from the times of that time. It also means that the senses are stimulated in a completely different way, which also applies to the memory, which is refreshed by revisiting the good moments.

Different and inspiring elderly care

It is one of life's premises that one gradually grows older. With age comes wisdom, but also a lot of experiences and events that one can later recall. However, it can sometimes be difficult to remember all the events and moments you have shared with family and friends, but with a video book it is possible to both remember and relive the pleasant times with those who are close to you.

It can be touching to hear a voice of a deceased person you have had close to, or to see children's pictures of your now grown grandson. Therefore, the video brochure is ideal for older people who have difficulty remembering the moments of the past, but who enjoy seeing pictures of events and people who have or have had great significance for them.

The video brochure works easily and simply. You just open the book, and then the movie starts - and when you close the book, it turns off. Therefore, the elderly can easily access the video book on their own. If the person is not so familiar with the internet, this is not a problem. A video book does not have to be connected to the internet in order to work. This makes the video brochure extremely user-friendly.

It is also easy and fast to add new material to the video - and if desired, we offer courses where you can get help to do this. However, it requires a binding of at least six films over a period of one year. It is also possible to send the material to us on an ongoing basis, which we can then transfer to the video brochure. This costs 1000, - excl. VAT. pr. video. If you want to make the films yourself, you can get advice and guidance in our guide.

Activities for demented elderly

85,000 people live with a dementia disease, and no less than 400,000 are close relatives of a person with the disease. There are several different dementia diseases, of which Alzheimer's is the most prevalent of its kind. It is difficult to live with the disease - both for the person affected, but also for the relatives of the patient, who clearly notice how the disease affects memory, behavior and the like.

A video brochure can help people affected by dementia to remember family and friends, as the video book can show small films and pictures of those close to the patient. The video book can thus constitute a good activity for demented elderly or people with Alzheimer's, as it can be used to stimulate memory - and of course bring joy to both the patient and the relatives, who can sit together with the video book and relive the good moments.

The video brochure has been tested in Ikast-Brande Municipality in people with dementia living at home, where the result was very positive. The same was true at Dementia Days in Copenhagen, where we presented the product - and this also with a good response.

"The video book is super easy for my demented dad to use. It fits a demented person perfectly because it plays a video as soon as he opens the book and stops when he closes it again. My dad was incredibly touched when he received it "and he loves to show it at the nursing home. He looks at the video brochure several times a day and I believe it helps him remember who we are. Thank you for the opportunity to give my father more fond memories."

Christina Malou Bro, relative of test person in Ikast-Brande Municipality.

A tool against forgetfulness in the elderly

The video brochure creates dialogue, joy and cohesion, but it can also be used informatively. The video book is thus not only good for private use, but can also be used to advantage by public institutions such as nursing homes, hospitals, dementia centers, etc., where it can be used as a video brochure to inform and inform about activities, offers, etc. a. use the product in a hospital setting to visualize, explain and give instructions about diseases, treatment courses, etc.

The video brochure is a dialogue-creating tool for people with dementia, employees and relatives. The fact that you can put small film clips and pictures in the video book makes it easier for employees and relatives to talk to the person with dementia about everyday life in the care center.

In some municipalities, the video brochure is also used to visualize everyday life in the care centers as well as the municipality's services for the demented, so that the person with dementia and the relatives can more easily make the right decision. In other words, the video brochure is a good and inclusive communication tool, which gives the user the feeling of participation, which increases the quality of life.

Video brochure can also be purchased for private use here.

The video book lets dementia sufferers relive the good memories

In the autumn of 2019, the Dementia Center Aarhus brought two video books on a civic education stay for people with dementia at an early stage and their relatives. The stay, which took place at the old bathing hotel Saxild Strand, offered cozy, social activities and professional presentations.

The video books were used, among other things, to focus on the common memories that the participants had during the course. By uploading small video clips of the social activities, the participants could see their own common song and dance from the day before, which contributed to laughter and good talk:

“The video book gives the dementia sufferer the opportunity to relive the good times, and the little movie bits are especially good for creating a good atmosphere. Although the person with dementia may not remember the specific situation, they can see and hear that they have participated in a fun and cozy event ", says Linn Wittendorff, who is Dementia-friendly City coordinator at DemensCentrum Aarhus.

The participants in the stay had an easy time operating the video books, which are very intuitive, and both the dementia sufferers and their relatives were curious about the video book and its potential. The video books ended up being a really good tool for creating positive conversations and a sense of community.
